Bihar is at the heart of Makhanley's sourcing and processing operation. We work directly with 100+ farmers across the state, procure traditionally hand-popped makhana, and process it at our own facility. For bulk buyers, origin is only the beginning: kernel size, grade, lot consistency, volume, timing and destination matter too.

Bihar is where our makhana begins.

Farmers across Bihar cultivate and harvest the crop before traditional hand-popping. We then move the makhana into our own facility for cleaning, Suta grading and quality inspection. For bulk orders, buyers can specify grade, volume, product format and destination so the required lot specification can be confirmed.

Common indicative Suta size bands

Makhanley supplies 4 to 7+ Suta grades. Suta is used as a trade size reference for popped makhana; higher grades generally indicate larger kernels.
