Makhana Suta Grades & Size Guide.

Makhanley processes and supplies popped makhana across 4 to 7+ Suta grades. Suta is a trade size reference for popped kernel size; the exact specification and tolerance should always be confirmed for the individual lot.

Grade	Indicative size	Typical buyer consideration
4 Suta	12–15 mm	Smaller commercial kernels for general bulk and snack applications.
5 Suta	15–18 mm	A versatile grade for retail packing, roasted snacks and bulk requirements.
6 Suta	18–21 mm	Larger kernels suited to buyers prioritising size and premium presentation.
7+ Suta	Above 21 mm	Extra-large kernels for size-specific and premium presentation requirements.

These size bands are indicative trade references. APEDA publishes the same indicative bands, while actual grading tolerances can vary by supplier and lot. Confirm the required specification before placing a bulk order.

Farmer network & facility

Makhanley works directly with 100+ farmers across Bihar, sources traditionally hand-popped makhana and processes it through cleaning, grading and quality inspection at our own facility.

Grade & quality control

At our own facility, makhana is cleaned and graded primarily by Suta, followed by quality inspection. Checks can include size, colour, moisture, impurities, breakage, insect damage and smell before the lot moves into further processing or packing.

We cater to domestic and export requirements and can supply different grades according to the buyer's specification, destination, application and required product format.
